I’m stressed

Hello everyone! It’s been a while hasn’t it?!! I have just finished up school and am now on Christmas vacation (thank god!)! It has been an extremely busy few weeks, finishing projects, writing essays, handing in ALL the things, and I haven’t had much time to write.   So today I’m just going to talk about where I’m at, and my plans for the future!

Ok! So we’re nearing the end of 2017 ( I know, crazy right?!?) and in the book community (blogs, Booktube, ect) people have begun to wrap things up. By “wrapping things up” I mean making videos about their favourite books of 2017, least favourite books, most anticipated books of 2018, you get the gist! Personally, seeing all of these blog posts and videos stresses me out because I feel like time is being cut short.  I feel as though there is a pressure to make my own kind of “wrap up” blog posts and if I don’t get them all done by January 1st, I’m a failure. Now, don’t get me wrong, I REALLY want to write some wrap up blog posts, and I have been meaning too, but with Christmas in two days, and school just ending, I haven’t had the time. However, with school done, I now have more time to do what I want blog-wise.  So here are my plans moving forward!

I have decided that I am not going to let any date stop me from making content! If I run out of time and end up making a favourite books of 2017 in the middle of January, so be it! I will not not write a post simply because I feel it is invalid at a certain time. It is valid if I put effort into it and want it to be valid.

I have so many ideas for new posts! Here are a few:)

P.s Be sure to let me know what you think!

– reading goals/plans

-a whole bunch of favourites!!

-blog goals

-anticipated 2018 reads

-random favourites

-Christmasy ( is that even a word?) tags ( even if I’m not tagged, lol!!)

So that’s it!! Thank you for reading and thank you for your understanding!! I can’t wait to write more in the future! Happy Holidays:)

Love, Simon

Hey guys! This is going to be a short one!

Today I wanted to give you a few of my thoughts on the new Love, Simon trailer/movie that is based off of one of my favourite contemporary books; Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda!!

I just watched the trailer and OH MY GOD I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED!!

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda Summary ( goodreads:)

Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is a risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing with, will be jeopardized.

As his email correspondence with Blue grows more flirtatious every day, Simons junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out- without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s ever met.

Ok! Let’s get into it:)

One reason I am so excited for this movie is because the makers of The Fault in Our Stars ( one of my fav movies) are making it! When I saw this in the trailer I almost cried. I trust them more than anyone and I know that this movie adaption is in good hands.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the tone of the trailer?!? The entire trailer felt like any other high school rom com and I LOVE that! This is one of the first queer YA book to movie adaptions and the producers are treating it like any other movie! Thank god!

I loved the end of the trailer when all of the straight teens were coming out! It made my day!

My favourite part of the trailer ( other than the entire thing) was when Simon complimented the other guy on his boots!! It was so funny and perfect and something book Simon would say!

So that’s it ( I know, short)!!!!! Thanks for reading! have a great day:)

All her life, nineteen-year-old Liesl has heard tales of the beautiful, mysterious Goblin King. He is the Lord of Mischief, the Ruler Underground, and the muse around which her music is composed. Yet, as Liesl helps shoulder the burden of running her family’s inn, her dreams of composition and childish fancies about the Goblin King must be set aside in favor of more practical concerns.

But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a price. The life of a maiden must be given to the land, in accordance with the old laws. A life for a life, he says. Without sacrifice, nothing good can grow. Without death, there can be no rebirth. In exchange for her sister’s freedom, Liesl offers her hand in marriage to the Goblin King. He accepts.

Down in the Underground, Liesl discovers that the Goblin King still inspires her—musically, physically, emotionally. Yet even as her talent blossoms, Liesl’s life is slowly fading away, the price she paid for becoming the Goblin King’s bride. As the two of them grow closer, they must learn just what it is they are each willing to sacrifice: her life, her music, or the end of the world.

Sparkling white snowdrifts, beautiful presents wrapped in ribbons, and multicolored lights glittering in the night through the falling snow. A Christmas Eve snowstorm transforms one small town into a romantic haven, the kind you see only in movies. Well, kinda. After all, a cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere would not normally end with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger. And no one would think that a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow would lead to love with an old friend. Or that the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks. Thanks to three of today’s bestselling teen authors—John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle—the magic of the holidays shines on these hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and breathtaking kisses.

Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

Those are some books I want to get to this month! I know I won’t get to all of them because of my Harry Potter reread but that’s ok:) Let me know down in the comments what book you’re reading or planning on reading this month!:)

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan…

But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words… And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?

And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

And that’s it!! Hopefully you enjoyed and be sure to let me know what your favourite “lazy” day read is, down in the comments!! Happy Reading:)

A Bookish Gift Guide for Book Lovers

Today I’m going to be making a list that you can use to find the perfect gift for that  reader in your life. Or, of course, you could use this and treat yourself!

How To Read More

Hello everyone:) As said in the title, today I want to discuss how to read more! I am always feeling like I don’t have enough time to read and I know that some of you feel the same way. This is kind of me just brain storming different ideas so without further ado, let’s jump right into it….

Now, for some people, planning your reading seems annoyingly like a chore but I honestly think that it’s a great idea! If you read for 1 hour before you go to bed every night, you’d be surprised from the amount of books you can get done! For some people, waking up an hour earlier might work, for others ( including myself) before bed is better. Carving out an hour to read everyday is so helpful and I totally recommend it:)

This is something that I automatically do but just carrying a book in your purse or backpack is a way to get way more reading done. If you’re waiting for your Starbucks order, read a few pages! If you’re on the bus, pop out your book! If you’re mom is late picking you up, finish a chapter! Read a page between classes. Opportunities to read are everywhere, be prepared for them:)

Yeah, this one is probably the hardest one. I spend most of my life on the internet and I know that most of you do as well. However, imagine how much reading you could get done if you actually stopped pinning on Pinterest or watching that autumn clothing hall on Youtube! This is where most of my reading time and it takes a lot of will power to stop but we can do it!
In 5 minuets….

This one isn’t for everyone but audiobooks are a great way to read more. Listen while you’re doing the laundry, doing the dishes, on the bus. I totally prefer reading physical books but this is a really good alternative!

That’s it for today! Hopefully you found a good new idea! Let me know the book you’re currently reading down in the comments! Happy Reading:)

Books, Tea, and Me #3

Hey everyone:) Today I’m going to be doing another Books, Tea, and Me where I talk (well really write) about the books I’ve been reading, the tea I’ve been drinking, and random stuff that have been going on in my life. Without further ado, let’s jump right in….

Ok. So recently I’ve DNFed 2 books because I couldn’t get into them. It’s been super frustrating because both books I’ve wanted to enjoy. However, I’ve finally gotten out of my little book slump/weird DNFing thing and I just want to read all the books!! At the moment I am rereading Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer

Image result for magnus chase and the gods of asgard

because the last book in the trilogy recently came out and I want to refresh my mind!

So once I reread the first two books and read the new Magnus Chase, I have a few books that I literally just bought and want to read.

  • Wildwood
  • Turtles all the way down
  • The Wizards of Once
  • The Forbidden Library

So I actually haven’t been consuming my usual amount of tea but at school my teacher started something called daily tea where people bring in tea and we drink it together!! It hasn’t happened yet but, um, tea and school are you freaking kidding me I’m PUMPED!!

So that’s it for my tea update:)

Ok I need to calm down.

But If you haven’t seen Stranger Things, what are you doing?? Go watch it

Anyway, other than that, another show I just started is Gilmore Girls which just makes me really happy!!:)

I’ve been really busy with school and stuff but I watch an episode whenever I can!

That’s it for today. Thanks for reading and you’ll hear from me soon enough! Happy Reading:)

Little Things That Make me Happy as a Reader

Hello:) As a reader, there are a few things that make my reader heart happy! Let’s talk about them….

#1 Reading a book in one day or one sitting

Now, for me at least, this one happens very rarely. So, when I do finish a book in a day, it makes me feel so proud and accomplished!

#2 Stained Pages

The DNF Zone

Hi everyone! today we’re going to be discussing the DNF zone. What is it? What causes it?   How do we deal with it? I got the idea to write about this because I recently DNFed ( is that a word? I don’t think so…) The Call. I just felt a book slump (which will be discussed very soon) coming on and so I decided that I wasn’t going to continue on with the book. DNFing ( totally a word, just go with it) The Call made me quite sad because I didn’t really get to the juicy part of the story so I felt like I didn’t give it a fair chance but sometimes you got to do what you got to do. Anyway, let’s go ahead and get started:)

What is the DNF zone?

“DNF” stands for “did not finish”. It’s a term that’s used whenever you started a book and ended up not finishing it.

What Causes it?

There are quite a few things that can cause you to DNF a book. One that happens to most people is the dreaded book slump. I’m going to go into detail about book slumps another time but a book slump is pretty much when you don’t feel like reading. It totally sucks because the book you’re reading could be AMAZING but the slump just comes and you can’t stop it. When you don’t feel like reading, it makes the book you’re reading seem awful and can likely lead to you DNFing it.

Reason #2 Losing Interest

Losing interest in a book  is another common reason for putting a book in the DNF zone. The book is simply boring and doesn’t hold your attention. Many people force themselves to push through a book even if it’s boring ( I’ve done so many times) and I have recently come to the conclusion that forcing yourself to read just isn’t very smart. You could be reading a new book that you really love instead of the one you hate but want to finish. And, forcing yourself to finish the book makes the reading experience so much less enjoyable which can lead to a book slump.

Reason #3 NEW BOOKS!!

The last cause of the DNF zone that we’re going to discuss today is buying new books! If you’re reading something and then come home with a brand new shiny book, it can lead you to put down the book you’re reading a pick up the new one!

When Do we DNF a Book?

In my opinion, there are two signs that you’re not enjoying a book and if any of them occur, you DNF it straight away.

#1 Forcing Yourself to Read

If you find that the book you’re reading is becoming a chore, put it down and pick up something you’ll enjoy! This is a way to prevent a book slump and will lead to your reading experience being more enjoyable!

#2 Book Slump

As discussed already if you feel like a book slump is coming on, drop that book you’re reading ( don’t literally drop it!!:) and find one you’ll enjoy.

Those are some of my thought on DNFing books! Let me know in the comments when you decided that enough is enough! Thanks for reading:)
